AOHNP (UK) NewsNew Format for Ruth Alston Memorial Lecture and Symposium This year the Board have decided to try a new approach to the RAML and Symposium. The events will be held consecutively – the Ruth Alston Memorial Lecture on the evening of Wednesday, 11 May and the Symposium on Thursday, 12 May 2005 at The Strand Palace Hotel, Covent Garden, London. This is a central London location with easy access from Waterloo and Charing Cross stations (five minute walk) as well as tube links. It is hoped that this will make the events better value for money and more accessible to those who found it difficult to get away twice a year. Discounted overnight accommodation is available providing the opportunity for additional networking if you want to talk late into the night! A preliminary flyer will be issued in early February with a final flyer being issued at the end of March – hopefully, though, the topics being covered will whet your appetite to come along and join us. We look forward to seeing you at the Strand Palace Hotel. Further information can be found
by looking under our Events page. New Website It is hoped that everyone
will enjoy using the new website - finally put on line in January 2005.
Please accept our apologies for the delay in getting this site organised
and updated. Hopefully the extra items now included will encourage non-members
to join and existing members to review the website on a regular basis.
It is our intention to update the site at the end of every month.
Please accept our apologies for
any "teething problems!" Topica "Chatroom" Update The Association has expanded its 'chat room' at Topica.com to cover all professional subjects. When the Association was first formed, one of the most vital objectives was to provide a forum to allow practitioners to share innovative practice and shape and influence the occupational health agenda. Occupational health practice continues to be a challenging and dynamic speciality which attracts sequential generations of the finest and most articulate nurses to all levels of practice. Join others in your speciality and let us know what you are doing, how your practice adds value, how you can help colleagues and how the Association might help and support you. Do whatever works for you and use our "chat room" site to inform, share success, browse, question and seek clarity or challenge the status quo. Remember, one of the AOHNP's first objectives was to provide a forum, it now needs you, the practitioner, to seize the opportunity and use it. To learn more about the list and subscribe to it on the web use this URL: http://www.topica.com/lists/AOHNPPS. Alternatively you can send a BLANK email to: AOHNPPS-subscribe@topica.com. This application will be forwarded to Linda Riseborough (as Manager of the list) who will accept your application if you are a member of the Association. As the AOHNPPS list is an open discussion list it means that all messages get distributed to the entire list of subscribers. To post a message to the list, subscribers can send email to AOHNPPS@topica.com or post messages to the list using the Topica web site. Any messages will be forwarded to everyone who has subscribed, the chat room begins…. We look forward to
members taking part in the email chat room. Symposium 2004 - Alternative Venue Success The 2004 symposium, held at Burleigh Court, Loughborough University was thoroughly enjoyed by those who attended. A study of the delegate feedback is still being undertaken and will be published soon but in the meantime we are pleased to attach the Powerpoint presentations from some of the speakers. (Some presentations may take a while to download/open as they are rather large). Unfortunately Professor Mansel Aylward was unable to join us on the day and Dr Philip Sawney spoke on his behalf. Violet Chidombwe, a member of AOHNP (UK) volunteered to speak at the debate. Andrew Pemberton - Workcare - a Government funded rehabilitation service Dr Doreen Miller - Mental Health - assessment and rehabilitation Debate : Fitness
for Work Statements - Whose job is it anyway? Dr Philip Sawney - Moving Along the Pathways to Work: Progress in Government Initiatives Carol Coole - The Management of Back Pain at Work June 2004
